Having grown up in England too and then moved to the US, I can see the witty aspect of this song from the perspectives of both sides of the pond. This song is quite smart. It is deliberately made to sound like pro English, but it's underlying currents are actually very negative and scolding of some of the English stereotypes and cliches, and the shameless paparazzi that he had to deal with during his 40 years in England. The key line at the end wraps up his sneaky meaning to the song "But the joke's on you, you never read the song They all think they know but they all got it wrong". I believe this is saying to the English, yes this song sounds pro English in feeling and spirit, but it's actually a mockery of the negative side I felt while living over there, and thank God I escaped to Georgia so I can escape all of that in the way that you can in America. Since there are so many people craving the spotlight in the U.S., celebrities can sometimes find a little bit of peace in the U.S. that they often cannot get back in their home country.
