I love this song (my favorite version is 1961, though 1995 Ring Them Bells slower version is nice in its own way), but I do not understand a thing or two.
1) Did the narrator kill Flora? What do these lines mean:
I pierced him in the breast
Then go, my lovely Flora
"get away" or "come here, I will kill you, too"?
If "get away", then Flora was alive to revenge upon the narrator in the court:
"she swore my life away"
Otherwise the words have to be "she's worn my life away"!
2) "Deprived me of my rest" - is "rest" the peace of mind or the rest of the narrator's life?
