To me (I'm probably the only one!), this song tells the story of someone who fell in love far from home in some exotic place.
She feels warm literally because its a hot place and also because its nice to be with that person... but its like woolen gloves it feels nice and warm but doesn't feel real "you can't touch things properly". She imagines what it would be like if she were to stay forever ("have babies" etc..) but she knows it can't last and that she has to go back to New York.
She wants the person to understand and forgive her (now)...
I think "falling in and out of my woolen gloves" is really beautiful, but I'm not sure what it means... I think it's about falling in and out of love but also, feelings of safety and security which come and go. (Like in her song 'dulce et decorum est' when "things that used to comfort me don't comfort me anymore0
