NO COMMENTS???!!!! I'm utterly shocked! I Love this song. It's a dark song <3 Also I can relate to this song!!!! Sooo much! But yes a lot of people say that, don't they? Anyway..

Well I think I have a good idea on this song. First I was thinking its like seeing all the problems around you. Being quite negative thinking. I think it could be a song about depression, it's like being locked up in yourself and then seeing whats going on outside. You hope the best for the people around you, but not for yourself. Your completely lost and 'There's nothing left' so your asking 'save me from myself'. I'll explain in verses, also I read an interview on this song, so I mixed what it is about with some other of my ideas. --

'The clouds are rollin' in We'll watch them The waves are strong The boat is gone I hope they're swimming'

  • I just thought this was about seeing the problems around you. And in the interview Matt Scannell says the ocean was a big part of his life. He would watch the storm coming and the boats going out, and he would hope they'd make it through.

'Little boy lost in woods Where's the clearing? The town is out They're calling loud But he's not hearing'

  • Same as above really.

'It's seems to me I'm always miles away Looking for my old face'

  • He's detached from the world, he's trying to find himself again. I thought it could be he's lost himself to depression and/or his problems and now he's someone new. But he's looking for that old happy slef. In the interview he said "'looking for my own face' was just really a lyric that means it's right in front of your eyes, and you can't see it."

'Save me from myself I can't relate'

  • These two lines are like the above meanings. He can't relate, needs to find himself again. Also the 'save me from myself' is very deep. It could mean that he's very hard on himself and he's asking save me from the mean way I look at myself. It could also mean if someone self harmed and/or was suicidal they could be asking somone to litteraly save them from their selves. Maybe he's just asking to save himself from his problems. And in the interview he did say he was mean on himself, hard on himself. He also said this "But all of those graces that we show — that I show to other people - are kind of vacant and missing when I'm looking at myself." Also to add to the 'save me from myself' bit, he says "I can see things inside of myself that are broken. I can see things inside of myself that are dangerous. I can see things inside of myself that desperately need help." The lines 'save me from myself' are kinda a cry out for help.

'We're mouth to mouth And still I suffocate'

  • Now this could mean someone he loves by the 'mouth to mouth' part. Like he's saying out of all the love you give me, still I can't cope. It could just refer to a friend, even if it is 'mouth to mouth' it's just meterphorically speaking, refering the mouth to mouth technique to save someone to the friendship saving him. But he still suffocates, the friendship isn't enough he still can't cope. Or it might not be about relationships with people, but about the world. All the beauty of the world, life, and yet he's still lost.

'There's nothing left Inside for me to break Save me from myself'

  • All hope is gone.

'The bullet in the yard Slowly rusting The bottles crack The kid's come back And I'm just looking'

  • I myself didn't really no what this verse was about. So in the interview he said "It's my backyard, and it's all in disrepair and disarray, and there are dangerous things back there, and I'm just watching." So I'm guessing by 'backyard' he meant everything happens so close, so near. And your just there watching it all happen, all the dangers.

'The wine is on the floor The candles flicker Your eyes fall And I'm apalled It's all just cinder'

  • I didn't really no on this verse much, apart from it was about a relationship of some sort that's gone wrong. But then, reading the interview its about not doing anything to heal the relatioship.- "It's like, you could do something about it, but you don't."

'That seems to me we're always miles apart Trying to find another place to start'

  • Pretty self explanitary. Find a place in their lives or in their relationship were they can start again. Or maybe they just mean in life general, to start again. Not in their relationship. Or maybe both.

'The sailors never left They knew the weather When they were found They were having drinks together'

  • Ha, it took me ages to realise that this verse links up to the first verse. This is the ending to that story. He hoped they were ok, but in the end they never left. So the problem, was actually no problem at all.

'I found a little boy in the grocery Happy ending's all around And still they haunt me'

  • And this links up with the second verse. He's not lost, but in the grocery store. Problem solved. And theres 'happy endings all around'. But 'and still they haunt me' is seeing it in an negative way. Or maybe the boy has a happy ending and it haunts him because he doesn't.

And that's all. LOVE this song. Very dark and deep =D

Amazing interpretation! I just discovered this song and I'm in love. <3
