My now ex girlfriend and I used to sing this song together at a homeless shelter in the area. It was always just a beautiful duet piece to sing harmonies and play guitar and piano together on. I knew there was a reason to us playing this song together and today I finally figured it out. "He" is not me... it is not you... it is Him... I feel this song was God speaking out to us that He is always beside us. Always in our hearts and mind. We may not listen to His voice "for such a long time" but ultimately when we need Him, He is there to be our support. We just need to believe. We do things we regret... "I wrote myself a song, I could not speak what I'd done" but He was there all along in some shape or form and is there to forgive us of all our sins. "But there was no one who could wake my heart like this"... God knows our hearts more than we do ourselves. He knows we are all divine and have the ability to do good in this world for that is how He created us. If we forget that, we feel He "breaks my world in two" but ultimately He is just reminding us of our true purpose. And we "never knew until He came to meet me"... I'm moved by this song now more than ever before. I hope others see the beauty in this song as much as I do. :)
