surprised to see no comments here. This, to me, is a very important song in the history of DFD as it is probably the only one that is genuinely pretty. No oompa loompas here.

Not really sure what it can be about, but it seems to refer to someone who has recently passed away but refuse to "go to the light", so to speak.

There seem to be two conflicting lines, though. "he turned out the lights" seems to talk about a third person who killed the person in question, but "the life you chose to end" seems more like suicide.

Does anyone have a theory on this?

This song is actually about a close fan of theirs who committed suicide. I forgot his name, but I know he was from the west coast somewhere (Washington/Oregon maybe?) It's explained in the liner notes for their last release "Beating a Dead Horse to Death... Again"

Mike Smolen was a huge member of the Dog Fashion Disco street team and frequent contributor to the Dog Fashion Disco message board. On Sep. 30, 2003, he made a post that basically said, "I am going to shoot myself with a shotgun." A few hours later he was discovered and brought to OHSU, where he ultimately died. This song was written and dedicated to him.
