Bugs and Flowers looks at the fleeting nature of Life, but at the same time it's omnipresence.

The bugs and flowers are so overwhelming that they eat into our temporary "man-made" world (the cross-ties, the rusted tracks). We don't consider the mortality of individual insects but we obsess over that of human beings.

Jeff wonders if we can, like the bugs, become a great undulating wave that ebbs and flows with the passage of time. Coming and going. When I die, I'll be eaten by the bugs and the flowers. Why do I care? I'll become part of something else and carry on. I might not experience it, but it comforts me all the same.

The reason we are we frightened by the sight of dead bodies is because we can't accept our own mortality.
