To me it sounds like it's about a good friend who he is watching destroying their lives. and they wont stop and open up their eyes to realize what theyre doing, even if theyre constantly asking him for advice and confiding in him. So day by day they just continue to live their reckless lifestyles. And its killing him to watch this happen despite all of his efforts. So he's giving up on them completely. I can relate to this song a lot, definitely my favorite.
