There are a couple words that could go either way (life you wish to leave/lead), I listened to the acoustic version where he sings a bit slower and went with the closest. But could go either way.

My guess is that while the "he'd have raised a hand by now" lyrics are fantastic, I don't think the songs particularly about religion. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say he's in love, and his partner wants more from life, and he's saying lets just appreciate what we have while we have it, the stuff you're chasing is over rated and can make you less happy rather than more. The sleep twitch thing might be to do with getting a surprise jolt?

My guess is that while the "he'd have raised a hand by now" lyrics are fantastic, I don't think the songs particularly about religion. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say he's in love, and his partner wants more from life, and he's saying lets just appreciate what we have while we have it, the stuff you're chasing is over rated and can make you less happy rather than more.
