Trees, wood, and the forest is definitely a theme seen throughout the album. I think when he is talking about forests he is using it as an analogy to family. If you think about it it makes sense too in that trees roots are all knotted up and intertwined underneath the surface. The way he talks about forests in this song and especially in bought a bride makes me think he is using forest in place of family.

There are a shit load of refereances to beds and fire as well. I was trying to figure out what all the similarities meant. I couldn't figure out anything better than your idea of it being a concept album kinda, all I know for damn sure is that it isn't Brand New losing creativity. Even I know better than that.
