surrendered, ur close but uve got it around the wrong way.. right concept tho.. this song is the hardest on the album because it is the final apocalypse before satans birth.. think of the worlds greatest evil force preparing their attack.. like before a massive storm.. the sun wont rise.. stone and ice form the devils army (metaphorical).. the trees are dead but theyre alive more than ever (the cold and lack of sunlight has killed the earth but its alive more than ever with the presence of satans army about to become born again)...
its sung from the perepective of a mortal.. a believer in god.. he is saying he fears a world without the sun but never the evil who wished it gone (which is where the concept surrendered outlined is on the right track)..
"and now the ground pulses, constricting for birth" - the devils army are about to break through...
im not religious at all.. in fact i hate religion.. but these guys are phenomenal in the way they create such an epic battle in the listeners mind (lyrically, vocally and musically).. awesome band...
