I think it probably is -as darkwolf112 said- about a summer hook up, that they fell or was falling in love with, and the person was like, hey, this is just summer love, as he sings:
"told me you were not the one... not to take it to heart"
and well, they both took off, and live far from each other, but the guy singing can't get over it, and still has hopes,
"Someday we'll meet beyond the stars
And it'll be away from here
Someday we'll meet beyond the land that you call miles away
Away from here"
but the truth is, he probably won't ever see them again.. , and maybe what he's longing for, is the feeling of meeting and being with someone who's truly amazing, and not a person in particular..
