I have an eerie relation to this song, thus making it one of my favorites despite it's relatively short length.
"And I know its not to get away from me,
You just need a change of scenery
So strange how everything went wrong so fast
And I hope that this confusion does not last."
You see, I was in the hospital for about 3 and a half months dealing with back surgery, and two days before I was to be released my girlfriend of 3 years broke up with me. She ended up cheating on me (which is where I see the 'change of scenery' line coming from, from both me and the hospital walls), and the break-up was so sudden and unexpected that 'everything went wrong so fast'.. especially considering how excited I was to spend more time with her once I was finally to be released.
"And when you ask do you love me
I should reply with yes most certainly
I always hesitate there's something lingering
I will try harder to be all that I can be"
This relates to a particular fight we had in the hospital where I kind of screwed things up from there on out, and what I believe ultimately lead to what happened between us.. I won't go into details, and the lyrics aren't completely literal, but the initial concept is there. After making the mistake I made, I decided that I would 'try harder to be all that I can be'.
"Now three months equals eternity and this will be so hard
And I will long to hold you in my arms."
This reflects to two things for me, but they parallel each other. For one, it represents how badly I hated to be so confined without my sense of freedom to do as I please, as to 'hold her in my arms'. For two, it represents the three months after I was released from the hospital where I could barely get around and had to wear a backbrace for another three months.. all through this, I was longing to 'hold her in my arms', but I knew there was absolutely nothing I could do.
For these reasons, this song is incredibly special to me. When I first heard it, I was seriously amazed by the comparisons. It sounds cheesy to say, but I swear I felt Dallas Green knew my life story personally.. because of this, it helped me get through a rather tough time in my life. I can pretty much relate to most songs he's written, which is an incredible bond to have with an artist.
