It seems to me that this song is about someone after a break up; how when someone else wakes him up in the morning he has to get used to it. He's reflecting on when he and his lover were "doing good" when their relationship was good, and now it's like they are different people. He feels like their relationship together was like a fire that is burning him more and more. Almost as if the girl was the fire.
