fueledbyrebecca is pretty much on point. Some time ago I wrote a blog expressing my current thoughts on the "scene" or whatever you would like to call it. Long story short, it was a comparison from how things are now, compared to how they used to be. Image versus sincerity. Gimmick versus talent.
That was a fair amount of time before Gabe wrote a blog defending the Millionaires issue. Gabe made some comments that upset a lot of people saying things like "I'd rather listen to this than guys cry about their girlfriends" or something along those lines. This, coming from the former lead man of Midtown, was ironic, and a real slap in the face to the people who had supported him for many many years. So I wrote him a reply, and the last line I wrote was indeed "but hey, it's just rock 'n roll, right?" in an obvious reference to the Midtown song. He replied to me, ending with, "but hey, the scene is dead, right?" He even invited me to participate in the absolutepunk.net interview, which I did, and it was very interesting, but has yet to be published.
The song is about all of that, as well as how we as listeners don't know everything we think we do about Gabe, his life, or his career. It's also about how he absolutely hates giving interviews and answering the same questions over and over. It's tongue in cheek to the people who don't give him any credit. It's a song about his attempt to move on, to be the person he's always wanted to be, and to separate the "old Gabe" from the "new Gabe."
Okay I get that scene kids are totally out right now and such, but when did politics and a person's background become a part of the "scene" that is operating right now? To look at me you would think that I'm a happy go lucky girl who listens to more poppy-sappy-gooey-barfy stuff like Britney Spears, Katy Perry and such, but I have been listening to "scene/emo" music for YEARS.

The FBR roster isn't about gimmick... its TALENT, pure and simple. If you don't like it then don't listen to it. If you think the members...

There are a couple bands on the FBR label that I don't like... I don't pay any mind to what they're doing or any of that.
Midtown was a totally different band from Cobra Starship. The fans know that. Some like both, some like just Midtown, and some like just Cobra Starship. You cannot use a style of music an artist did before to what they do now or in the future. Gabe wanted to get away from the depressing music about guys crying about their girlfriends. Now he makes happy upbeat music you can dance to. He used to wear drab clothes, now he's decked out in neon. He's changed as a person, much like I'm sure you have.
