Oh by the way, I'm 90% sure the lyric says "Cold-blooded fake" rather than "fate".
My interpretation of this is centred around his admitted past drug and alcohol abuse. "Light the fuse and burn it up" metaphorical of lighting smoking apparatus and a self-destructive fuse. He's not proud of it, etc, etc, but he will not bow to the substances and drink, hence his sobriety as of the end of 2007. And won't "fall" like those whose lives have been cut short or severely damaged by aforementioned vices. Well, that's my take. Knowing BB as well as I do, I find these lyrics far more meaningful and important than any of their songs about relationships.
