It seems to me Patrick's singing with great pain and frustration. He is on knees trying to find out why all these people in his life weren't the one. All the people he loved broke his heart in some way and he's asking, "Who will be the one/From all the ashes/Of all the crashes'. He's tired of pouring his heart and soul for people who in turn break him down. I love this song because I've been asking myself this question lately, who will be the one?
