Schemes as in elaborate (and maybe sinister) plans of action?
Or as in... color schemes? Hues? Rainbows?
It's so weird how the english language allows for such disparities of meaning for a single word. But sometimes the fun's in the falling down through the cracks, I guess. Open to all interpretations.
Another definition of scheme, that doesn't have much to do with the others, I think:
an internal representation of the world; an organization of concepts and actions that can be revised by new information about the world.
