This seems like a bit of a sad song--a girl infatuated with a self-absorbed guy. The guy shows up late, doesn't offer her the helmet, generally shows he doesn't care about her.
The one thing I don't really understand is the "she" in the chorus--maybe another girl he's taking advantage of?
Anyway, though it's a bit depressing, I love the tune and the lyrics. One of the best off I'm Going Away.
I think the "she" could be the man's girlfriend, and the narrator is the other woman.
Hence why she "lied all the way". Could be that she was lying about her relationship with the man to his actual girlfriend. It would also explain why she was lying about going to the motel...
