Hay foot ( not hey, but whatever) straw foot, is an old term from the army, back when few people new left from right, they would tie hay to one foot and call out "Hay foot straw foot" instead of "left, right".
I beleive the term Hay foot then came to mean someone who is "green" or inexperienced.
