From a church-going background, as most of KSE is, this song is even more plain in meaning.

"Now choose this day who you will serve To be the light in a darkened world"

This is a reference to a pair of passages from the sermon on the mount:

"Now choose this day who you will serve" is a reference to Matthew 6:24: "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

The singer is asking which of these masters the audience will devote his life to, God or money.

"To be the light in a darkened world" is a simple reference to Jesus' analogy comparing Christians to light:

Matthew 5:14-16 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

This is saying that Jesus' followers should thrive to to do good to everyone.

That's my take on it anyway.

exactly what i was thinking but i dont understand this lyric "You failed us all and the water's beginning to rise" but the main message is definately what you said

@ no BS: Just a guess here, but I think it's a reference to people before the Great Flood. All of mankind failed God (save for one family), and the waters began to rise.

Again, just a guess, but I think it fits.
