This song must be about how religion is just not right for some people, and that he rather see the rational side of things instead of blindly believing. Also, maybe how messed up it was for Bert to be a Jehovah's Witness (he was raised that way) and how unfitting this was for him, so he had to find his own truth of things.

Actually he was Mormon.... he was raised in Utah... and went to my high school. His father has had a hard time with him leaving the Mormon church but if you listen to the song it doesnt seem to be about a certain religion about all religion in general. I know his dad has had a really hard time with him leaving the religion so that relationship may be part of it. If you look at the lyrics of some of their first albums they talk about this but not as directly.

oh and also the clip in the beginning of the song is from Khalid Muhammad, an extremist Muslim from Texas.... not even a christian, reinforcing the idea that this song is about all religion.
