Cover art for Charlie Don't Surf lyrics by Funeral for a Friend

i like the idea of questiong existance, and it seems it would probably be what they were trying to get across.

although i had a different interpretation before i read those. i first heard this song shuffling through funeral for a friend in my maths class, and it seemed to me that the song had alot of relevancy to education.

firstly i thought the title may have been a reference to how kids and teenagers now are expected to give up pretty much all their time for education. and that 'charlie don't surf' could be meaning that the subject being sung about wants to spend his own time surfing (which could be his hobby) and he is in a situation where he can't do what he wants too. 'pay attention for detention's here to stay' hit me as kids today having to adhere to silly numbers of rules and regulations. and are expected to know pretty much everything. and that instead he's more interested in his hobby and as such is getting detentions (maybe for not completing homework) i also thought that the line 'and it took so long to find all the answers through the lies' i interpreted as: although school may give you an education. it doesn't teach you how to be a good person. and how he's had to figure life out for himself, and all school did was hinder him.

that's just my opinion. i see how it ties in with faith though :)
