I definitely understand what you're getting at Fearless and I agree.
But as for a different interpretation:
Maybe the song is about how people put up a 'front', if you will, or a charade [i think in this song it is directed towards a religious one] on the outside to fit in or to look cool [the walls of a church don't make it holy]; you're insecure so you put on the charade. And inside you feel nothing. You are always talking, but you never say what you truly feel [speaking aloud]. It's the real you that defines who you are.
Then add in Fearless' part and thats about it.
Just a stab in the dark.
