Dead Man's Rope Lyrics

Although he is verey familiar with the theology, I know Sting does not consider himself a Christian but like other songs on the Sacred Love album I see this as a continuation of god's pursuit of his soul spilling over into his lyrics. (check out Whenever I Say Your Name, Book of my Life, Send Your Love, Sacred Love) To me, this song represents a perfect analogy of becoming "born again" or "saved" or accepting Christ as your savior. (use whatever terminology that doesn't make you cringe) All the walking represents our life before Christ, lost, irresponsible and burdened. "Did you ever wonder what you'd been carrying since the world was black? You see yourself in a looking glass with a tombstone on your back" the debt we owe, our sinful condition as humans, the cross we bear before accepting Christ's ultimate gesture of bearing it for us. When i was investigating Christianity i felt this..."All this wandering has led me to this place Inside the well of my memory, sweet rain of forgiveness I'm just hanging here in space" I remember all the teachings of my childhood, forgiveness and love but i was frozen and stuck in an unbelieving state. To me the "rain" is Christ's forgiveness washing away our sins. And then, "walking in his grace...All the days of my life I will walk with you, I will talk with you, I will share with you, I will bear with you" to me that speaks of the Lord's mercy, grace, and gift of salvation, that we will spend eternity with him one day. He doesn't go as far as capitalizing "his" or "you" in the lyrics but who exactly is he speaking of? Whenever I hear this song I think of it as a worship song...not sure if that would please or upset Sting or if he would even care. My constant prayer for him is that God would catch up to him and he would start to write praise and worship music..THAT would be heaven on earth for me!!!!!!
