The song paints the story of two characters, a girl that feels increasingly alienated in a crowded society and an aging man facing the reality of growing into a person much like his father.
However both find comfort (she's never alone/he's never growing old) as long as St. Christopher is here. St. Christopher is the patron saint of travellers and they are both going through a particular journey in their lives... he protects them.
That's just my two cents worth anyway ...
I absolutely love this track, definately not my favourite at first (actually thought it was the weakest track on the Sticks 'n' Stones EP) but it has grown on me a lot recently, it is stunningly beautiful.
Admittedly his vocals aren't very strong on that track but I've always been a fan of Jamie's slower, acoustic songs.
