I FINALLY GET IT. so basically, this significant other told this other person that they aren't allowed to be sad. so when he says
"I'll smile for you now 'cause you're sad
but I'm not allowed to be sad" ... hes saying that whenever he sees this other person sad, it makes him sad because he loves her so much... but he's not allowed to be sad, get it?! :D im pretty sure thats it.
