Thank you for answering my question. Now to answer yours:
"What I want to know is what
"But another crime was committed
And it's never been admitted
Have the guilty been acquitted
Lord, the night will only know."
is referring to."
I think what this means is that the "crime" was that the couple in the car were being adulterous. Adultry is oftne considered a crime in addtion to the fact that they were an accessory to murder because they lied by omission and also because they didn nothing to help the person being murdered.
'That night will live forever
Their first time to lie together
They were finally where desire dared them to go
Both belonging to another
But longing to be lovers
Promising each other that the night will only know.'

Obviously stating that the charachters will remember the night forever, firstly this is because it is their first time going to have sex with each other. THey are both married but have been longing to be together for a long time and now they finally are they have decided that it will forever be their own secret.

'Parked on some old...
'Parked on some old backstreet
They laid down in the backseat
And fell into the fire down below
But they would pay for their deceving
For a deadly web was weaving
Why they picked that spot that evening
Lord, the night will only know'
They have decided to have their affair in the car parked away from public view. The spot wasn't planned it was random but little did they know it would haunt them.
'Well within the innuendos
Just outside the steamy windows
The night was shattered by a woman's scream
Motionless and frightened
The grip of fate had tightened
And with trembling hands they wiped away the steam.'
Whilst having a good bit of fun they've heard a woman screaming outside which has obviously shocked them and they've had to carefully look to see what happened.
'They saw a woman pleading
Stumbling, begging, and retreating
'Til she became the victim of a foe
And they watched her fall in silence
To save their own alliance
But the reason for the violence
Just the night will only know'
Obviously they have just witnessed a woman being tortured and murdered. They have done nothing to intervien mainly because they know that by doing so they will have to admit their own adultery. They have no idea why this has happened either but they do not want to find out to save themself from being caught.
'And every paper ran the story
She was stripped of all her glory
And they told exactly how the woman died
Abandoned and forsaken
Too many pills were taken
And they ruled the woman's death a suicide.'
This is the interesting part, obviously after the womans murder has been made to look like suicide through drugs she is made out to be just a nohoper in the press. The question is why? It indicates that perhaps the murdered was someone of importance, perhaps a police chief or someone in government who could perhaps been with a hooker or similar. Not to important though as the song is more about the affair than the murder.
'Bound by their behavior
They could have been her savior
Now guilt becomes an endless debt they owe
But another crime was committed
And it's never been admitted
Have the guilty been acquitted
Lord, the night will only know.'
The couple could have saved the poor womans name, but they didn't and the reason was puerly to hide their own 'crime' the affair that they do not want exposed to keep their own little life storm free.So the cheating couple must pay with guilt forever to hide their secret.

I believe this portion of the song refers to the woman that was in the car and that her guilt became over whelming, as a result she committed suicide.
