I feel like the title of the song is so appropriate..he didn't make the title of the song "Perfect" for a wonderfully simplistic reason: the love between he and his ex wasn't perfect. They obviously broke up for a reason, and he is able to capture the post-breakup regret and longing that a person feels towards their ex in the aftermath. This song is about his transition from a comfortable relationship to a scary new life in the lonely world of a single person. As is natural, he seems to dwell on all of the good qualities he misses about her, while overlooking her flaws and all of the events that transpired which caused them to break up. He's also able to show that although a woman might seem perfect on paper (which might warrant high fives from your friends because of her) it might not mean that she is the right one for you. Great song, great lyrics.
