i disagree with xlittlesparrowx. i don't think it can be written about his family cuz some of the lyrics have a very sexual commotation, like "pull me in like you were made for me" and "i crawl into your atmosphere", and since david's never mentioned incest, i really doubt it's anything but romantic. he's singing about a girl that brings out the best in him and that he looks up to. but just because it's romantic doesn't make it not inspirational. and romance is not less that inspiration, it's just different.
