Sounds to me like the writer is against people's religious views.

The title: "I Support Same Sex Marriage" Whereas the church doesn't condone homosexuality

"You're a classic case of, "Look around, It's obvious!"" This could suggest blind faith of religious people

"But further down your arm from that bracelet on your wrist" Could mean a WWJD bracelet

"When you spend all your time with your eyes to the sky" : Looking up to God

"When you spend all your time with your eyes to the sky, You end up looking down your nose just to look me in the eye" This could suggest he thinks religious people think they are superior because of their faith i.e. "looking down their noses"

I see you handing out a pocket sized version of ten rules = ten commandments

"You're filling a dark room with hopes that no one will see" He thinks that the prayers people make aren't heard. i.e. Filling the room= prayers. Dark room= suggesting no god

"To turn on a light you have to get up off your knees" telling people to just live their lives

"So get up off your knees" represnting people kneeling when they pray

My Interpretation

I agree with some of the imagery you talked about but the song is first and foremost about coming out of the closet, several members of Fireworks are gay so this makes a lot of sense.
