byteskat got it right. Dennis Deyoung wrote this song for his wife because he was away from her so much while the band was touring. But if you have a special lady in your life, it also works as a love song to her. Beautiful song, BTW.
I think you're correct. He doesn't seem to be leaving forever since he wants her love to see him 'though." I used to love this song until I saw the horrible movie "Babe." I believe it was about a pig, although it's been so long I can't quite remember:) Every time I listen to the song I think about a dang farm animal ;)
