I think the song's meaning is pretty self-evident (apocalyptic stuff pretty much like the rest of the album), but what the hell is with the "baby clams" thing?
I'm positive the "Baby Clams" part is refering to a bit from Alice In Wonderland when Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are telling that story about the Walrus (with his charming talk and promise of fame and the good life) and the Carpenter who lure little singing clams away from their mother and over for dinner. The Carpenter prepares the meal for his new friends and upon his return to the shack he built, he finds only shells because the Walrus ate all the little clams. And they thought they could have it all...
