This song sounds wicked powerful.

It's basically someone thinking love is cruel and would do anything to keep holding onto their love. It's told through describing Cupid makes someone trying to not hurt another person even though it is possibly too late to save the love. This person will battle Cupid to keep the love going strong.

Song Meaning

I kind of disagree with you. It sounds more like she is angry at Cupid for first of all making her fall in love with a jerk, "don't say you aim to please, don't say that you love love". She doesn't believe that Cupid had any intention of being a good guy here, that he has gone against the goodness of love. But then she's also accusing Cupid of not relenting in his arrows, "don't you know that it's over?". She does not love the man anymore, but Cupid keeps shooting his arrows at them. She seems stuck, continually saying she...

I agree with zibbz. She doesn't want to hold onto love, she wants let it go. She still feels love for this man despite the fact it's supposed to be over. She's trying to explain this to Cupid so he will stop firing his arrows at her (a.k.a she can get over her love completely).

"Cupid, Dont you know that That its over? over?"

>

  • She's confused, as Cupid is still making her love even though she needs to get over her old lover
  • "Cupid pulls the arrow Shoots it forward"

  • She's confused, as Cupid is still making her love even though she needs to get over her old lover
  • "Cupid pulls the arrow Shoots it forward"

    Cupid is, as zibbz...

  • Cupid is, as zibbz said, unrelenting
  • "I want to leave here"

  • She wants this all to stop and move on
  • "Cupids a heartless angel with cruel composure"

  • The juxtaposition between 'Cupid' and 'heartless' shows how Cupid is causing her pain in keeping her in love
  • "Dont say that you aim to please, Dont say that you love love"

  • Cupid may have good intentions, aiming to please her in name of love, but he's instead causing her pain.
  • "Whats done is done When it comes to me"

  • This is final plea to Cupid that whatever he's trying isn't going to work, her and her lover wont be united and he needs to let her go.
  • This isn't a song about holding onto a lover in the face of adversary, even the power of Cupid (metaphor for erotic love) himself - it's a song about trying to fight away Cupid. The pain and anguish is pretty obvious in way she sings as well.
