I was actually at a concert at Rhythm and Brews in Chattanooga, TN when he started the song incorrectly by starting with the second verse. He stopped, apologized, and said he had never messed up the song before, but he started thinking about his mom as he began singing and that is why he got the verse wrong. He then went on to explain that he wrote this song when his mother did not approve of his pending marriage to his first wife. His mother thought that this girl was bad for him (turns out she was right) and he was trying to explain to his mom how he felt about her.
