This is yet another lyrical gem by Have Heart. To me, I see this song being about letting go of the one you love hard as it may be for you but knowing it's for their benefit and not yours. It's a song that tells us our love should always overrule our selfishness. When I listen to On That Bird In The Cage, I'm reminded of my mother and I. Our relationship is illustrated greatly in this song. She's not ready to let me go, yet I'm struggling from her rule over me to leave while fearing the life I'll lead once on my own. We shed our hippocrisies on each other while holding each other down from what we both want. All in fear.
