There is a problem with the song being about "losing" Jesus or being distracted for that matter. Likwid Cid was right on this matter, Jesus won't forsake you, and the song is all about being forsaken: "you're never coming back." Jesus will always come back. Written alternatively as, "Jesus will never never come back." So, that is strik one against Jesus theory.

Secondly, "I can't see you Getting used to Living in the midst of your perfection" Jesus not getting used to His own perfection? His own powerful, glorious, brilliant perfection?... and He can't get used to it? That makes me think it is about- not a girl,- but another close friend. Another beautiful human being who had all the qualities that the speaker loved, but got envious of. He call them "better then me" and this was the cause of "pushing them [you] away".

Song Meaning

I do think that this song is about Jesus. I agree completely that Jesus will never forsake us, but I don't think this is about Jesus leaving, but rather, pushing Jesus away. I think Matt feels not that Jesus had forsaken him, but that Matt forsook Jesus. Also, I think the line is "I can't see you. I'M getting used to living in the midst of your perfection." I think he initially feels that Jesus had forsaken him or that someone stole him away but then he realized "There was no thief, 'cause it was ME that lost you." If...
