I think he uses a lot of the same imagery to symbolize different things... this song I think is about a loss of innocence. "Sold my soul like a pocket knife".... "Sold my soul and I laid her down"... and then the line "There'll be no milk as sweet", like it can't ever be as good as that first time. Just my thoughts.
