Personally for me, this song is in the context of a 'warrior' or a fighter. (That may just be the inner geek speaking, but bear with me.) The 'battle' I refer to doesn't have to be literal either, take it metaphorically if you will.
"Send us a blindfold, send us a blade
Tell the survivors help is on the way "
Is an indication of some sort of fight, with the blade and that there are survivors. "Got us a battle, leave it up to me." Also follows my theory on the battle, for obvious reasons.
For me, "I was the one with the world at my feet." shows almost a strength and leadership, and I see "I was a blindfold, never complained.", to me, signifies that the singer is the one protecting the others from what is going on, being the one that 'covers everything up', and is exposed to everything in the process.
"You gave me a life I never chose." shows that is was involuntary and almost compulsory, and that she was thrown into this situation, with no choice, and it's almost an unstoppable.
Anyway, just my perspective of it, beautiful song, has real meaning.

The line is "I was a blind fool, never complained," not "I was a blindfold, never complained.
