i have a completly different view of this song. i feel like joe brooks is trying to say that when we think we've tried everything, to be happy in life, or to escape our problems, don't give up hope. our shadows, the evil things that lurk with us, will go away, be taken away in the light of the world. our friends, our dreams, our happiness, is the light.
the holes inside of us, i believe are our missing pieces. the things that make us feel complete, happy, and satisfied in life. if we have holes, were not truly happy, but we should not give up hope. our dreams could come true.
i personally believe in free will over fate, but i understand what joe brooks is saying (fate and your dreams will collide) because we can make our dreams come true and create our fate and be happy.
