I think it's about her watching a friend destroy his life, and knowing she could help him, but also knowing that part of the reason she feels that way is because he's pushing her aside for someone else. She don't want to get in the way of them and realize that changing things would be selfish, even though she thinks it would be better. He's got to make his own decisions, and right now, he's choosing to leave her behind for 'the devil.'
