Maybe something like, when he's older and stronger, it'll affect other people and change history?

When I first heard this song, I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics. Not only that, but I haven't slept yet (I first heard this song tonight). I thought "and then it goes back" was a literal meaning; the flag waving, sort of back and forth. The more I heard it, the less sense that made. Thanks for the comments
