New Divide

To me, the song was about aliens - greater beings in outer space who are coming to Earth. They are asking us, people, to show them why they should save Earth, why they shouldn't just destroy all of humanity because we have ruined the planet and give the planet a chance to start over without our wars, pollution, and all of the mistakes we keep making. The song for the most part seems to come from the point of view of the humans:

I remembered black skies / The lightning all around me

• These greater beings who have our fate in their hands have come and apocalypse seems unavoidable.

I remembered each flash / As time began to blur

• Time seems to slow down as we look back on all of the mistakes we made now that we're finally facing destruction

Like a startling sign / That fate had finally found me

• Same as above, we realize that we finally have to pay for all of our mistakes on Earth

And your voice was all I heard / That I get what I deserve

• These aliens/robots/whatever who are about to wipe us off the face of the planet to let Earth regrow before we ruined it are telling us that we should have seen this coming and that we deserve this after all we've done

So give me reason To prove me wrong

• They're asking us to prove them wrong, to prove to them that we are worthy of surviving. Perhaps they wish there was another way, but need for us to prove it so that they can justify saving us.

To wash this memory clean

• They're asking us to prove to them once and for all that they can forget about our mistakes and that we won't make them again.

Let the thoughts cross The distance in your eyes

• The distance between us - clueless, cruel people and them, who have decided that we only bring destruction to everything we touch.

Give me reason To fill this hole Connect the space between

• They want us to show them that we aren't as different as we've been acting this whole time.

Let it fill up to reach the truth and lies Across this new divide

• The new divide that's visible between the ones who have come to bring justice to the planet and the humans who are realizing that we are now accountable for our actions.

There was nothing inside / The memories left abandoned There was nowhere to hide / The ashes fell like snow

• We can't hide anymore, we have to be accountable for what we've done and the pain we've caused.

Now it might be from 'Their' point of view, talking to us:

• We finally realize that we aren't good enough to stay here, that we can't prove anything to the ones who have come to destroy us, that we really are as bad as they think.
