It ain't about divorce or a breakup of any kind. It's certainly about the death of a loved one. Lines that point to it: "I'll meet you in the end", as in, in death. "I'll never forget as you lay there and watched me, accepting the end." Lying on her death bed. Simple. Not such a simple song emotionally however. This is by far one of the most emotional songs ever produced by anyone. I don't look forward to the day I can actually relate completely to its meaning.
@godscoward However, there is these verses:
"Turn, I'll turn this slowly round"
"Burn, burn to feel alive again"
and
"The best that I can without you here beside me"
"Let him come and take you home".

So I think the song is about a man who was insane and he thought murder would be the best solution ever. He believed in afterlife and in meeting her girl (or wife) again. He tied her up under a blue sky and set the fire as he was clear about what is this world/universe like...

"I'll never forget
As you lay there and watched me
Accepting the end
I knew you were scared"
Well, thank you, now I am scared a little bit. Probably the scariest lyrics in DT's history. James LaBrie wrote also Vacant, short but so sad song full of hopelessness.
James, I want to understand you more.
@godscoward I found a conversation where James LaBrie himself described what is this song about and how he got an idea to write such lyrics. If it's surely him I don't know. There's no guarantee but I feel it starting to take over me ;)

@godscoward This guy has the best answer on the thread. Read this one, and then stop.
