The character in this song has been having a relationship with somebody, and they wish they hadn't taken it this far. The speaker has become so dependent on this other person (vice versa) that he/she can't live without.

Out of resentment, the person wishes his or her partner didn't succeed, because he/she hates the idea of that other person achieving anything in life.
