Hmmm, I get this controlling vibe from the guy. Like he's saying she's not tough enough to handle it, but if she just let's him do everything for her she will be better off. Like he's the only one that can help her.
I agree with jjm, that's what I always got out of it too. I imagine this sort of codependent relationship where the girl has low self esteem, the guy is kinda controlling, he's telling her he's all she needs, and his opinion of her should be the only one she should be basing her value off of. When it says drop the mirror, he's saying that she needs to stop being concerned about herself, and focus entirely on him (which if you ask me, is good in theory but makes for a really f'd up relationship).
