This is an amazing song. Period.

The meaning? Well I see it as being sung from three different view-points.

'I don't like the world I see, So I'll avert my gaze to the T.V, I'm too cool to get involved, Someone else can change the channel for me.'

'Its no use to get involved, You'll never stop the world from turning. I just want to rest in peace, I can't stop the world from burning.'

This is the voice of a normal person, who thinks it's useless to stop pollution and other issues. They are too cowardly or lazy to do anything. The voice of the general population?

'Gonna suck the juices out of this world, Gonna treat her rough it's all she deserves, She's so cold to me. Gonna rape this world with my straight lines, Gonna straighten her out 'cause nature is just history.'

'Gonna test my bombs wherever I want, Gonna poon the whale, Gonna drain the swamp, It's money to me. Gonna fuck with genes I am what I am, Much more than a God, Much less than a man of Industry.'

The second persona is the voice of all industry and leaders who think 'nature is history' and outdated. They want to do what they want with world because they have power.

'There's a hole in my heart, Your so cruel to me, There's a hole in my heart, from your industry There's a hole in my heart.'

This is the voice of the Earth itself who is devastated the people it has given a home to for so long are trying to destroy it. We are cruel to the Earth and it feels it.

Notice that the first voice is quiet (it just wants to go unoticed), the second voice is louder because it has more power, but the third is bigger physically than all of them, and it's emotion is strongest.

Very, very clever song. Took me a while to figure out the three different voices. At first I thought it was about God who turns evil because his creation won't pay attention to him. But the title made me re-think...
