This song makes me believe that galaxie has a double meaning like one would be his Car and the other in his head like his world when he was high "I'm more at home in my galaxie" as if his altered reality is more molded to comfort then sobriety ever can be.

a) that he wants his truths be know on his own terms while he is still alive and can express them conciously.

if the achieves that then he could die a happy man.

b) that he rather die young than old.
The song itself I think is about a former relationship that ended because of his addiction. The cadillac being him sober and clean. The galaxie being him high on drugs. And even though he can become sober and clean, he prefers to get high because that condition is part of who he really is. He says he chooses to be that way instead of being a cadillac guy.
