I think the alternate version of the song may be a bit better than the version on Weapons... It was on a compilation cd, it features Nathan singing in a few more parts, not to mention it is slightly different. As far as the meaning, it seems to be about or similar at least Karl Marx's theory about alienation and how technology further alienates man from himself.
