ok, well the "drowning in the lake" part seems like some sort of symbol or something, a metaphor. but i'm guessing it's about how this guy(or girl, take it as you wish) is coping with the loss of their loved one, listening to their answering machine so they could hear their voice, cuz they know they can never hear them again, and (s)he keeps blaming himself/herself, and they tell him/her it's not his/her fault.
in other parts of the song, he/she is comtemplating on moving to another city, or somewhere, but doesn't understand what that would prove, the pain would stay with them inside, and they are looking for direction, and he/she realizes that their loved always looked to them for directions, like they knew all the answers...
i think the title means they're looking for happiness when their world is lost.
wow i haven't heard the whole album, i've heard about four songs, but this seems like a really depressing album, lol. considering the whole happiness title. self blame, treachery, hypocrisy, wow, lol.
